A bedroom is any room built or converted for sleeping in, even if it's used for other purposes.

Paymentshield policies are known as "bedroom-rated", which means the number of bedrooms you have will affect the premium. It also gives an idea of the rebuild value of the home and the value of contents kept within the home.

Some examples are as follows:

- Five bedroom house but one bedroom is used as a study = This is still a five bedroom house for insurance and rating purposes.

- Three bedroom house but the dining room is used as an additional bedroom = This is a four bedroom house for insurance and rating purposes.

When there is a change to the number of bedrooms at your property, you need to tell us as soon as the work's complete so that we can make sure our policy records are up to date. Failing to do this could affect a claim.
