A medical condition which fits the definition of a “pre-existing medical condition” will be excluded from your client's Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance (MPPI) policy.
We will not pay any accident or sickness claims due to or arising from:
Any pre-existing medical condition unless your client has been symptom free, haven’t received treatment or consulted a doctor about the condition in the 12 months before the start of your accident or sickness claim.
A pre-existing medical condition is any condition, injury, illness, disease, sickness or related condition and/or associated symptoms, whether diagnosed or not:
• Which your client knew about, or should reasonably have known about, at the start date, or
• Which your client had seen or arranged to see a doctor about, during the 12 months immediately before the start date.
So for example, if your client has suffered from a condition and sought medical treatment in the 12 months prior to taking the policy out, and then consulted about that condition in the 12 months prior to the claim start date, the condition would not be covered under the terms of the policy.
Please note that medical treatment includes medication, consultations and presentation of symptoms that can be related to the “pre-existing” condition.
