For new business, if your client requires cover for personal belongings away from their home, you can select personal possessions.
Personal possessions covers your client for accidental damage, theft or loss of their personal belongings taken away from the home anywhere in the United Kingdom, and a maximum of 60 days if taken outside of the UK.
What do I need to specify?
Unspecified personal possessions
You do not need to specify:
- Pedal cycles (bicycles) individually valued £500 or less.
- Mobile phones valued £250 or less.
- Any other items individually valued under £2,500.
Specified personal possessions
You do need to specify:
- Pedal cycles (bicycles) individually valued more than £500.
- Mobile phones individually valued more than £250.
- Any other items individually valued more than £2,500.

If your clients policy has been taken out or renewed after 18 February 2024, the below information is required:
If we have increased your clients contents insurance to £75,000, the most you'll be able to claim for personal possessions away from the home is £22,500.
If we have increased your clients contents insurance to £100,000, the most you'll be able to claim for personal possessions away from the home is £30,000
We have changed the limit for specifying mobile phones and bicycles to £2,500. This means you'll only need to specify mobile phones and bicycles on their policy certificate if they're worth more than £2,500.
Mobile phones and bicycles that are worth less than £2,500 can be covered by including unspecified personal possessions.
