For a mobile phone to be covered, you’ll need to provide evidence (a receipt) that you've suffered a loss.

If, under the terms of your mobile phone contract, your mobile is replaced free of charge, then this would mean you haven't suffered a loss as the phone will be replaced with no extra cost to you. If your phone needed to be replaced and this would be at a cost to you, then you should be able to claim for this as you've suffered a loss.

Mobile phones are covered as standard for contents and can also be covered under personal possessions if you've selected this option of cover. Mobile phones insured under personal possessions are covered up to £250 unless specified on the certificate.

Please note that mobile phones are excluded under the optional accidental damage cover that's available under certain policies. Please check your cover limitations and exclusions. However, if you have personal possessions cover, accidental damage claims will be considered under this element of cover.

For all Home Insurance policies on PNL/PS/019 terms & conditions

If your policy has been taken out or renewed after 18 February 2024, we have changed the limit for specifying mobile phones to £2,500.

This means you will only need to specify mobile phones on your policy certificate if they're worth more than £2,500. Mobile phones that are worth less than £2,500 can be covered by including unspecified personal possessions cover.
