The excess on a policy is a fixed amount that you must pay if you make a claim. This payment will either be taken by your insurer before the start of a claim, or simply deducted from the value of a claim payout.

You’re able to choose a different excess for both buildings and contents. For example, you could choose a buildings excess of £250 and a contents excess of £50.

If a claim is made which affects both buildings and contents, only one excess will apply (the higher of the two amounts if different).
